Result of Gulf Cup - Dirt Track Racing

C. S Santosh of Team TVS came up with a flawless display on his TVS Shoulin to emerge supreme in the Indian Expert class Group B, in the first round of the Gulf Cup Dirt Track Championship for two-wheelers in Mangalore on Sunday.

He also won one race on his TVS 250 FX in the Indian Expert Foreign class leaving his team mate to follow. In addition to the trophies he won from each class, he took home prize-money of Rs. 9000 /-

The first round of the Gulf Cup, which will culminate in the Clash of the Titans after four rounds of competition at different venues around the country attracted a record 177 entries. And, needless to say, the competition was top class all the way. While the experiences riders provided some attractive riding, the novices, or first time riders too displayed a degree of versatility on their bikes.

The course laid out by organizers Sportscraft was really tough. In addition to the sharp bends there was also loose gravel areas which made staying in the saddle dicey. Many riders, particularly the first timers, lost their balance and took a tumble or two.

Despite the hot and sultry conditions the riders displayed raw courage and skillful riding and gave the huge crowd much to hoot about.

In the Novice class Sudeep Kotegar showed a fine display of skills and also emerged the best local rider. He was always under pressure as he went through the motions on the serpentine course laid at the Mangala Exhibition grounds. But to his credit, he did well to strike the perfect balance on the sharp bends to stay ahead of the rest of the field and come out trumps.

Challenging him all the way was Adnan Ahmed and Sameer Choudhary .

The event sponsored by Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd, organized by Sportscraft Mumbai in association with the Mangalore Motor Sports Association delivered what was promised - a perfect event for the riders and a spectacular show for the spectators. Event ran with clock- wise precision.

With a narrow margin separating the top riders one can be sure a battle royal in the next round in Pune on 17th & 18th May
