By Vijay Kumar
Moscow , 16th February 2006. The 22 year-old Georgian GM Baadur Jobava won the event on tie-breaks of the Aeroflot Open 2006 which concluded in Moscow on Thursday . In the final round he defeated Malakhov with Black while David Artunian ,who shared first place along with 11 co winners, was declared winner on better tie breaks of A2 group.
The last round of the Aeroflot A1 was a real drama. In case of a draw, Eljanov would ensure first place unless Georgiev won (in this case Georgiev would have been first). But in fact both leaders, Eljanov and Georgiev lost. India’s Krishnan Sasikiran won his game with black pieces against K. Georgiev and added a solid one point to join the first place at 6.5points with 3 others. Grandmasters SS Ganguly and Sandipan Chanda finished on 44 th and 50th positions respectively with 4.5points.
In A2 Group only Neelotpal Das could secure a place in the first 40. He finished with 5.5 points on 37th place. Abhijeet Gupta, Deep Sengupta and the Delhi Wiz Kid Parimarjan Negi finished with 5 points on 44th 53rd and 54th places respectively.
