Dr. L.H. Hiranandani Hospital receives NABH Accreditation -WD Team
Dr. L. H. Hiranandani hospital became the first hospital in west India to receive the prestigious NABH accreditation. The recently established National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Organizations (NABH) under the aegis of quality council of India has made stringent patient care standards to validate the quality of care through compliance assessments against 500 criteria, critical to the efficient functioning of healthcare setting.
There is a strong emphasis on patient rights and benefits, safety, control and prevention of infections in hospitals, practicing good patient care protocols and better clinical outcome. The standards relate to the local culture and systems, yet at the same time, are benchmarked with the best International standards. “Receiving the accreditation on the day of my father’s 90th birthday was a double celebration for our family and companies,” announced a delighted Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani, Managing trustee of the hospital. Dr. L. H. Hiranandani, Chairman of the hospital and father of Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani was truly a happy father proud of the achievement. The Hiranandani hospital was India’s 8th hospital to receive the certificate and first in west India, out of 39 applications the NABH received. They had applied only four months ago and got the certificate already, which is an achievement for a young hospital that is only over three years old.
“Certificates are not enough to say we are good but we have been able to match a service,” emphasized Mr. Hiranandani. Adding to this was Dr. Sujit Chatterjee, CEO, Dr. L.H. Hiranandani hospital, “The hospital’s recent certification of ISO 9001:2000 also helped us in the right direction and now this NABH certification sets a higher standards, keeping us on toes at all times. This certificate does not mean that we become slack or else the board is liable to pull out the certification. This certificate actually motivates us to go further.”
There are 30 full time doctors and 200 visiting consultants. The hospital’s nurse staff has been trained at the University of Sydney. The patient stats revel that 85% are local patients, 15% international patients; 11% fall under pediatric care and 18% are senior citizen patients. The hospital treats virtually all kinds of treatments one can name. NABH is a board set up with cooperation of ministry of health and family welfare, GOI and the health industry to establish and operate accreditation programme for healthcare organizations. It is autonomous in its operation. NABH, non-profit initiative has entered into a MOU with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS). “The NHBS has set standards by taking the best standards at international level, which are suiting Indian culture and conditions,” spoke Dr. Chatterjee.
Although the Hiranandani has total of three hospitals, yet they prefer focusing on being builders of hospitals and not fully venture into healthcare industry. “We are also looking to set up hospitals, be consultants for other organization and/or government.
