Mumbai, Maharashtra, May 30, 2007: Citizens of Mumbai can now rely on a booklet that will provide tips on emergency-preparedness during heavy rains. Apollo Tyres Ltd, India's largest tyre manufacturer, and Corporate Voluntary Organization Networking for Disaster Management (CVONDM), a leading Maharashtra-based NGO, compiled a comprehensive Disaster Management booklet, which will be launched by the Mayor of Mumbai, Dr Shubha Raul, on June 4, 2007 and will be distributed free of cost to over three lakh motorists in Mumbai city between June 5 - 8, 2007.
This is the second year in succession that the programme is being carried out. The booklet contains contact numbers of disaster management cells, fire brigade, coast guard, towing/crane facilities, drainage control, police stations, hospital/blood banks and other emergency services, across Mumbai. This booklet will enable Mumbaikars in general, and motorists in particular, to be proactive and face emergencies armed with the right information.
Project Safe Drive would like to involve Mumbaikars as volunteers or Safe Drive Champions,, to create awareness and help in the distribution of the handbook. The Champions could volunteer their service either on the four days of on-ground activity or carry out the initiative in and around their locality. They could register themselves as a Champion (volunteers) by sending SAFE DRIVE as a sms to 8558, or by calling on 67126948 and the number aired by RED FM. Over four days the handbooks will be distributed free of cost across mumbai across a predetermined route plan. Handbooks will also be available at Apollo Tyres' dealer outlets across the city, who will also be participating in the on-ground initiative.
