Dogs, Dogs everywhere !!!!!!!
By Prashant Rana

A boy was walking calmly down the street early in the morning to go for his daily swimming practice at the local pool and was attacked by a band of dogs who bit his leg. Sounds familiar doesn\'t it. How many times have we heard this story. Now, the same boy grows up to be a young man and still goes early in the morning this time on a new bicycle, and behold what does he find the same dogs waiting for him. The moment he enters the street they are upon him. he somehow cycling fast avoids them nearly falling. Terrified he changes his route. But one fine day he is accosted by another pack of dogs, all bent upon goodness knows what. He changes his route again and is accosted by another group. He changes his route again and is again barked upon, followed by dogs baring their teeth to the fullest as if bent on tearing him to pieces. He also notices that even milkmen on cycles are so followed and so is any person on a two wheeler. So he changes routes, accepting even the most circutous but to no avail. This is not the story of just one boy but many of them, some not as lucky to just get away by a light bite, but something even gruesome, making the fear these canine creatures all their lives. Do not think that dogs are bad. They are man\'s best friend. But to have dogs on the street chase a person as a pack of hounds would do in a jungle is too much. Sterlisation does not work since the number of dogs have become so large. Even the civic body cannot do anything since the amimal activists are upon them like a pack of hound every time a proposal comes up. Ironical isn\'t it. People must understand that dogs are posing a threat. They have gained confidence and will continue the attacks. We live in a city, not in a jungle or rural area. If we want the dogs and men to live in harmony it must be close to nature, not places where we have substituted trees with buildings.

The animal activists live in nice localities where there are very little or no strays. Even then they go around feeding them watching them multiply and so they are happy. But what about the people in other localities. They can hardly feed themselves and they should feed the strays to go unaccosted. What is the solution to this problem if not mass-elimination or release into the dense wilderness
