Traffic Cops - Highway Robbers
Traffic police in cities like Mumbai are literally behaving like highway robbers. Time and again and PIL's being filed in law of courts has not created a single dent in the behavior or management of the traffic police methodology.
People are shocked whenever the police tow cars come along to tow cars away that simply do not obstruct traffic or are parked wrongly. "Have you seen how they tow the car," said a shocked
bystander at one such sojourn. "These guys came and in 10 seconds flat they opened the car,
released the handbrake and towed the car in flat 20 seconds. Only a car stealer can do this."
Besides, what convincing assurance can these traffic cops give when these boys who tow the cars in daylight, cannot utilize their skills to steal cars at night?
What exactly is the duty and work of a traffic police? To make sure the traffic flows properly and
direct vehicles at junction in peak hours and at dangerous junctions. Traffic cops are also meant
to make sure they solve the disputes of car crashes and help the injured and ease the rest of the
traffic. But do they do that? Nopes! they only hide at turnings to catch hold of the poor
unsuspecting vehicle who drove past the second the lights turned red or took a left turn when
traffic was less. Do they catch the ever spewing polluted cabbies or the roughly driven buses?
Nopes! they only believe in harassing those cars who cannot spell power. Have you ever noticed a
Mercedes-Benz being caught? Have you ever seen a kind officer who lets go off a driver if he has
wrongly cut the lane in ignorance or to overtake a slow empty cabbie? Nopes!
The traffic police in Mumbai are wolves in sheep clothing- literally! They have no plans to
modernize signals or plant proper direction boards. They are only and only interested in duping private car drivers by embroiling them in traffic laws that were formed 125 years ago. It's very easy to put up 'no parking' signs everywhere, knowing the roads for parking vehicles is diminishing. It is only another excuse to tow the cars away and charge Rs. 300 flat- no bargain! They even introduce weird laws by aping the west where the roads are car-worthy. Here when the traffic does not move an inch a minute, where is the need for the seat belts for all in the car?
