When Getting People Unemployed Is an enticing Idea.

Big Bazaar, Food Bazaar, Subhiksha may sound familiar to you. Well these are the names of a few retail outlets that are well advertised. What do they do?
They basically provide you with goods cheaper than the MRP and also a good quality shopping ambience. It’s great for the customer, great for the manufacturer, and great for the shopkeeper…..no..not exactly. These shops don’t have a shopkeeper. They just employ a few young guys/gals to do the basic things.

Now getting back to the shopkeeper, they are probably the only one who lose by this. Afterall there business has gone down considerably. Nowadays people go there just to buy a one off thing and not the month full of Ration. And the situation of these shopkeeper is going to get worse each passing day. More and more people from the middle class families are opting for the retail outlets and why not afterall money means something. Moreover Companies like Reliance and Bharti(Airtel) are going to step into this sector in the coming years.

This was a rather debatable topic when the same thing was happening in the US. Outlets like Bargain City and Walmart being the pioneers there. Now the question comes to us? Is it the right thing for India? Do the shopkeepers need to find an alternative job? I think it is.
