Time to tone down the noise pollution
Dr. Nitin Mehta
Time to tone down the noise, whether it is loud speakers, musical instruments, fire crackers and even honking on the road. The Noise Pollution [regulation] Rules 2000 stipulates maximum D/N decibel [db] levels for different designated areas – residential 55/45 db, commercial – 65/55 db, industrial – 75/70 db, and silence zones 50/40 db.
In a country like ours, with religious and cultural traditions, noise level is very much high even during 10pm and 6am.

The citizens will take of this noise pollution seriously as air pollution in city, the damage means a lot. It is worth noting how much noise is too much.
How much noise can cause permanent damage ?. the illustration gives a fair idea, with exposure on the busy road [80 db] to jet taking off [120], while fire crackers[not shown here have . 129.6 db –sweet 16 [whistle] to fire fuller [shell] with 141.8 db
