Indian Physics Association is happy to announce the 2004 ,2006 Awardees for excellence in different disciplines of Physics. Details of various awards are given below:

Murli M Chugani Award -2004, Birla Award - 2006, Buti Foundation Award- 2006

M.M. Chugani Memorial Award

M. M. Chugani Memorial Award for 2004 has been given to Dr V. C. Sahni Director of the Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology and Director of the Physics Group of BARC. The Chugani award is given for excellence in applied physics and carries a citation, gold medal and cash of one lakh. Earlier this award was given to Dr. K. Kasturirangan of ISRO, Dr. S. K. Sikka, Office to Principal Scientific Adviser to Govt. of India, New Delhi and Prof. Ajoy K. Ghatak, IIT, New Delhi.

R. D. Birla Memorial Award- 2006

The Indian Physics Association announces the awardees for its prestigious R. D. Birla Memorial Award for the year 2006. The awards are given biennially (once in two years). The R D Birla Award is given for the excellence in pure physics and carries a citation, gold medal and cash of Rs: 50,000/-. This year it is awarded jointly to Prof. N.Kumar, Homi Bhabha Distinguished Professor at Raman Research Institute, Bangalore & Dr.S.S.Kapoor, DAE Homi Bhabha Chair.at BARC, Mumbai.

The previous awardees of this award include Prof. A. Salam, Prof. B. V. Sreekantan, Prof. Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, Prof. R. Ramanna, Prof. Govind Swarup, Prof. Sivaramakrishna Chandrasekhar, Dr. P. K. Iyengar, Dr. R. Chidambaram, Prof. G. S. Agarwal, Prof. J. V. Narlikar, Prof. Ashoke Sen, Prof. Bikash Sinha and Prof. P. K. Kaw.

Buti Foundation Award- 2006

Buti Foundation Award of the Indian Physics Association for the year 2006 has been given to Dr. Tarun Souradeep of IUCAA, Pune. The Buti Foundation Award is given for outstanding contributions in the area of Theoretical Applied Physics, Astrophysics and Biophysics and carries a citation, a gold medal and a cash of Rs. 25,000
