Vacation Courses for Students, General Public, And Amateur Astronomers: Telescope Making
From April 21th 2007, May 2007 & June 2007
i] Telescope making course for school children (3 days 2 hours daily). Emphasis will be laid for making small refractor telescope, inclusive of lens type telescope kit. Topics discussed will be Lens mathematics to understand the terms like focal length, power of the telescope, and focal length of eye piece, telescope mounts, what you could see with your telescope. {No of participants only first 20}
ii] Telescope Making for Amateur Astronomers (2 week ends (Saturday/Sunday) – 2 hours only); 8 lectures cum demonstrations. Emphasis will be laid for making mirror telescope (~6" mirrors) and will include mirror making kit. Topics will consists of types of glasses, method of making concave mirrors, testing the mirrors, assembling the mirrors, aligning the telescope with bright stars. It is expected to grind the mirrors with hand. There will be one guest lecture on Fibre optics and its applications. Every participant is expected to make his/her own telescope. [No. of participants: only 20]
*Those members who would like to use mirror making machine can hire the same only hourly basis.
iii] Advance Telescope Making for those who would like to make larger mirrors( ~ 10" and more) with machine grinding.{ No of participants: ~ 5}*
All the Telescope Making Course is on first-cum first participant basis. The Telescope Making Kit is mandatory for all the participants.
