International Indology Conference, Kala Academy, Goa,India-February 8-10,2007
A 3-day International Indology Conference on the contribution of ancient Indian thought to the Development of Modern Indian Society , is being organised at the Kala Academy, Goa, India, in February 2007(between 8-10th) under the auspices of Motilal Banarsidass Publishers(MLBD), a world leading publisher of books on Sanskrit and Indology since 1903, New Delhi and Kala Academy,Goa, a premier Centre for Performing Arts and Culture. The theme of this conference is "Ancient Wisdom Brought to Modern Times-Pathway to Higher Consciousness"
The basic objectives of the conference are to identify some areas of ancient Indian wisdom like Philosophical Thought, Aesthetics, Theatre, Music, Dance, Vastu, Astrology, Astronomy, Vedic Mathematics, Cuisine and Health and their contemporary relevance. The conference is an attempt to explore the extent to which these 'pearls of Indian wisdom'
may be able to make a contribution to the development of a modern Indian society without necessarily compromising on the advantages of modern living .
Reintroducing the contemporary Indian to the legacy she/he has inherited, sometimes requires us to unlearn what modern society teaches us and also to relearn and internalize this legacy in the course of our educational programme. This conference is thus just a step towards working out the feasibility and importance of this approach and its adoption in University level curricula.
This conference will provide a platform to discuss an alternative educational system on the lines of our ancient 'Gurukul Pratha'. Padma Bhushan Dr.L.M.Singhvi (former Indian Ambassador, U.K. and also an expert on Indology) will be invited to be the guest of honour for the inauguration of the conference. He will also share his scholarship on the dais. The keynote address will be delivered by "Vamadeva" Dr. David Frawley of the American Institute of Vedic Sciences, New
Massachusetts, U.S.A . Shri.
