KBC III- Hosting change

From the time KBC III declared Shahrukh as the KBC takeover man, I was a little curious. It seemed like everything Amitabh did SRK had to do even though he knew comparisons wouldn’t exactly be favourable. His copying Big B is well-known but they say imitation is the best form of flattery, so I think deep within Big B must be a role model to him. But, none can say he is a mirror image. Definitely the Khan has made his presence felt even in remakes like Don especially as the wicked, unrepentant Don(though the twin was insipid in comparison).

But, coming to KBC, you could see the campaign readying people for a change – the video, the commercials were nothing, if not different, and therein lay the unique selling proposition as they say in advertising parlance. So when the d-day arrived, I knew I wanted to check out star plus which is not amid my first ten channels(no saas bahu serials for me), so I missed the first part by the time I remembered, the Shah(King)had already made his mark.

He shortened a very long South Indian name to a very modern and cute one. And, made a very nervous player comfortable. With his inimitable funny bone he made you laugh. And, that for me is the clincher. I don’t care if he creates drama, goes overboard and hams a bit.

He is proving to be the most entertaining game show host. For, all those who say Big B was the best I’d like to know why did KBC2 flop so badly. After a while, watching and waiting for others to win becomes boring. And, the questions even today are hardly something that would be useful for a competitive exam. But, they are interesting and fun. Fun! that’s the reason I watch tv to enjoy myself, to laugh wholeheartedly.

So, till SRK is entertaining I have no complaints, and the day I lose interest I’ll simply switch off my set. The way I did when KBC I became repetitive.

Right now, I’m all for the new host. I’d say to people stuck in the past, move on or stay in the past. Rewind the tapes and watch repeats or grow up to a new KBC. Soon I hope Shahrukh will shed the suit-boot, it feels hot and the set- I hope the sets will match its stylish host. Here’s to KBC III!!
