INDIAPACK 2006 - International Packaging Exhibition

The Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP)- Member of World Packaging Organisation in association with Tafcon Projects and Expomedia Group, UK was successful in tapping the packaging sector with its INDIAPACK 2006, The International Packaging Exhibition whichwas held from 11th - 14th December, 2006 at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon (East), Mumbai. Along side An Asian Packaging Conference was also held which brought in experts, distinguished entrepreneurs and packaging manufacturers to have a panel discussion for deliberating on ways and means to adopt world-class packaging practices in India.

INDIAPACK provided an international platform for Indian Packaging and Printing Industries and an opportunity for Global companies from Korea, UK to showcase their products, technologies and a forum for exchanging ideas Companies like Reliance Industries, Jindal Steel, Pidilite industries, Eagle Manufacturing, Bell Packaging, Tipco Industries and Tea Board of India participated in this one of its kind exhibition.

Radha Madhav Corporation Limited (RMCL) one of the participants, a leading manufacturer of various applications had the privilege of announcing the installment of the first MOPVC line in India to produce quality PV shrink films by cast process. “This link of meeting between the end users and the manufacturers will be a great advantage for this industry to facilitate exchange of the latest technologies, quality material and innovative systems. The objective of our company is to provide holistic packaging solutions at an economic rate” quoted Mr. Mitesh Agarwal, MD of RMCL. Some of the products which were displayed in the exhibition were packing material like Labels, adhesives, semi – plastic containers, attractive glass and paper cartons and machinery catering several industries like food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, toiletries, textiles, handicrafts etc

Indian Packaging Industry Scenario

The Indian packaging market is currently worth Rs. 650 billion (approx US$ 14 billion) which represents 2.3% of the world market. This industry is growing at a rate of 15% per annum more than twice of the global average. India is expected to be the third largest consumer of plastics by 2010.With the supporting industries like Food, Petrochemicals, Retail growing at an enormous rate, the packaging industry is looking into foreign investment seriously. Over 40% of Export is done by small and medium Sector Industries where Packaging Industry has its major presence. A number of State of Art Package Converting and Manufacturing plants have been set up in the country; some of them are exporting to developed countries like USA, Europe, Canada and Australia.
