M N Chaini Elected President, Gul Kripalani, Vice-President of IMC for 2008-09
Mumbai, March 4, 2008: Mr Murlidhar Narayan Chaini, Vice-President of Indian Merchants’ Chamber (IMC) and President (Corporate Affairs) of Reliance Industries, has been elected IMC President for 2008-09. Mr Gul Kripalani, Chairman of the IMC's International Trade Committee and also CMD of Pijikay Group of Companies, has been elected IMC's Vice-President for the year.
Mr Chaini has served the IMC in various capacities -- as a Member of its Managing Committee, as the Chairman of its Energy and Industry committees, and as the Cochairman of IMC's India Interest Group.
As the Chairman of the Privatisation Committee of Planning Commission, Maharashtra, he submitted the report which is under implementation by the State Government. Mr Chaini was the President of Maharashtra Economic Development Council [MEDC] during 2002 - 06. He also holds the position as Director of Reliance Assam Petrochemicals, Fem Care Pharma, and Champagne Indage Ltd.
His accomplishments include the construction of India's first Nylon Tyre Cord Plant in India, based on Zimmer Technology and designed the nylon plants in South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia and Thailand for Chemtex. He was also involved in the basic design and construction of polyester plants of Philippines, Yugoslavia and Costa Ricca. Later he worked as the Country Head of Chemtex in India.
He has extensively dealt with multinational companies such as, Du Pont, ICI, Bechtel, UOP, John Brown, Chemtex, Boeing, Dassault, Bell Textron, Raytheon, Bambardier, Shell, M.W.Kellogg, BP Chemicals, Samsung, Nichimen, Itochu, Mitsubishi, etc.
Mr Gul Kripalani
Mr Gul Kripalani's Pijikay Group of Companies is engaged in export of seafood and meat to various countries. He has served the industry as the President of the Western Region and then as the National Vice-President of the Seafood Exporters Association of India and led delegations of the seafoods industry to Israel, Taiwan, France, UK, Belgium, and other countries.
He has also been the Chairman of the IMC's International Trade Committee, the Founder Chairman Emeritus of the Indo-Canadian Business Chamber, the Vice-President of the Indo Israeli Chamber of Commerce and Culture, the past President of the Rotary Club of Bombay, and the President of the International Christian Chamber of Commerce, Mumbai.
Mr Kripalani is on the Governing body of the University of Nagpur (Veterinary Science & Agriculture), the Board of Teen Challenge as well on the Advisory Committee of Habitat for Humanity, India and is also the Convener of the Terry Fox Committee (India). Mr. Kripalani holds position as the District Chairman of "The Peace Conference" for Rotary District 3140 encompassing 119 Rotary Clubs.
As the Chairman of Festival of Blessings, three years ago Mr Gul Kripalani organized a three-day prayer meeting for about 4.8 million people of all religions in Mumbai and again another three-day prayer meeting for about 7.3 million people in Bangalore.
